Verdeo
The identity for an architecture and landscape website, designed from the ground up: every graphic element is a project drawing — site plan, section, planting plan, light study — never a photograph.

Context
The Brief
Verdeo is a concept created by Calaj itself: a contemporary architecture and landscape studio whose portfolio is almost entirely unbuilt, and that still needed a website that felt credible.
An early-stage studio with more drawings than finished builds — the usual portfolio photography simply doesn't exist yet.
Architecture and landscape design — a field where work is usually sold through photographs of finished spaces.
No finished projects to photograph and no budget to license stock imagery. The site needed to build trust without a single photo.
Concept exercise — fictional brief
Imagine Verdeo approaching Calaj with this problem: “Every studio website in our field is built on the same licensed interior photography. We don’t have that library yet, and using someone else’s work isn’t an option.”
This brief was written by Calaj to exercise the process end-to-end — it isn't a real project. Verdeo has no real founders, clients, or completed work. See the notice at the end of this case for the full disclosure.
Strategy
Change the Genre, Don't Make Excuses
Drawings are what a studio produces before there's anything to photograph — site plan, section, planting plan, light study. The identity is built entirely in that language, instead of borrowing a genre it hasn't earned yet.
Warm, horizontal, unhurried — long lines and generous line-height, where Aurea is vertical and ceremonial. All caps stays reserved for short labels, never a full sentence.
No image is ever decorative. If a graphic can't be annotated — given a scale, a north arrow, a section line — it doesn't make the cut.
Identity
The System
The V isn't a drawn letter — it's what's left when five contour lines are stacked and each one loses exactly 19 units of width. The ends fall on two precise diagonals, so the eye closes the V even though no diagonal exists in the file.

Learnings
What This Project Demonstrates
Not having photography wasn't a gap to hide — it became the reason the identity looks the way it does. The missing library is the brief, not an excuse inside it.
“No image is ever decorative” had to hold true on a card, a hero, a mobile screen, and a work grid without becoming four disconnected decisions about what counts as a drawing.
Because it's a concept project, Verdeo has no real contract or completed builds. This case documents the system Calaj built and the decisions behind it — not results, because none exist.

Need a website built from what you actually have?
Calaj builds the same way for real clients: strategy first, then an identity and a website that work with the material you have today — not the stock photo library you don't.
